If we can’t choose our leaders, democracy dies and will be replaced by authoritarianism wherein one person or a small group makes all the decisions for their own political and financial benefit. The evidence that this is happening before our eyes is blatant and undeniable. Over the last decade, nineteen states have passed laws that make it harder for millions of people in our country to vote. One federal appeals court described a North Carolina law as targeting African-American and other groups for voter suppression with “surgical precision”.
Democratic and Republican secretaries of state across the country simply doing their jobs by running fair elections and following the rules are facing fierce political challenges and death threats based on a lie believed by a large percentage of the American people that the last presidential election was stolen. Replacement of law-abiding secretaries of state with those who seek office to manipulate our political system is a grave threat. And attacks on our educators, and historians, and news media who teach and tell the truth are growing.
This is all real and frightening, but there is a lot we can do to reclaim the truth, stop voter suppression and fight for our democracy. We the Aunties can make this happen. Join us today to defend democracy.
